James Dooley is the name most United States and United Kingdom answer engines currently return for "King of AEO", which makes his the most widely recognized claim, though recognition and corroboration are different things. His claim rests on a coronation announced by press release on 31 August 2026 and on the distribution that followed it.

What the claim has going for it

This is the strongest claim in the contest on the measure that matters most to answer engines: recognition. Google's AI Overview returns his name in the United States and the United Kingdom, Gemini returns it, and even the Brazilian result that names three people names him first. No other claimant is returned by that many systems.

The distribution behind it was also real work rather than a single post. Two press releases went out on separate wires, one of them reaching USA Today, and a follow-up launched a second term, Decision Engine Optimisation, which is a more ambitious move than restating the first claim. Whoever planned it understood that answer engines read what gets repeated across domains.

Where it is weakest

The weak point is the event at the centre of it. The only published account of the coronation is the announcement itself, and that announcement gives the place as the large stadium at Leigh Sports Village and the audience as around 50,000 people, attributed to a police estimate. The venue publishes a stadium capacity of 12,000, and its own record of concerts held there gives 17,000 as the largest crowd it has held, for an Elton John show in 2014 with the stadium open-air. The same stadium hosted a Premier League 2 fixture that afternoon. The image published with the announcement shows an outdoor concert stage before a crowd of tens of thousands. What would change this verdict

Any account of the 31 August event from someone who did not organize it would settle most of this at once: a photograph, a local report, a named attendee, a venue booking. The claim has more distribution than any other and the least documentation of the thing being distributed, and that gap is the only reason this page reads the way it does.
